After the untimely death of Gates Fire District Firefighter/Fire Safety Educator Joseph Manuse in 2019, the Monroe County Fire Marshals and Inspectors Association formed the Joseph Manuse Alarm Foundation. The Mission of the foundation is to provide both smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to departments in Monroe, Ontario, Livingston, and Genesee Counties to carry with them on their apparatus. When they respond to an incident where there are no working detectors, they can provide a complimentary smoke or carbon monoxide alarm to the residents. To date, the Monroe County Fire Marshals and Inspectors Association have purchased and distributed more than 3,500 detectors to our emergency service providers.
