Rochester, NY – Commotion Dance Theater will host a Day of the Dead Celebration at MuCCC, 142 Atlantic Avenue, Rochester, on Friday November 1 at 7 pm and Saturday November 2 at 2 pm and 7 pm. This is a family-friendly event and admission is pay-what-you-wish. Following a brief performance of dance and music, the audience is invited to enjoy refreshments and view altars created by local artists in memory of loved ones. Attendees are also welcome to bring a photo or memento of a loved one to place on a shared altar during the festivities. According to organizer Ruben T. Ornelas, “Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday, but many cultures have similar customs to honor and remember their loved ones. By coming together to share memories, stories, and traditions, we can all joyfully celebrate our deceased friends and family.” Participating artists include visual artists Julie Chen, Annette Dragon, Dina Noto, Cielo Ornelas MacFarlane, and Tina Starr; musicians Bonnie Abrams, and Kristie and Brian Barr; and dancers Laura D’Amico, Nanako Horikawa Mandrino, Laurie MacFarlane, and Ruben T. Ornelas. Advance tickets to the Day of the Dead Celebration are available at www.muccc.org More about Commotion Dance Theater: Offering “a light-hearted performance that required zero effort to enjoy” and “a very different type of dance performance,” (City Newspaper), Commotion Dance Theater specializes in multi-disciplinary, movement-based works.
